Easter: Muslim groups engage youth with trainings

Some Islamic groups in Nigeria have mapped out various programmes to engage Muslim youths meaningfully during the Easter break.
The Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as public holiday to mark Easter.
Some of the groups are Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, B-Zone; Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association; Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness; and Badrud-dinil Islamic Circle of Nigeria.
In a statement, the MSSN B-Zone Amir, Mushafau Alaran, and Abdulhakeem Kolawole, the IVC organiser, stated that the 103rd edition of Islamic Vacation Course will hold in four centres.
The centres are Ibadan for Oyo and Osun delegates, Ondo for Ekiti, Edo, Delta and Ondo States delegates, Lagos for Ogun and Lagos States and Port Harcourt will be the host for delegates from Rivers and all the Eastern states.
The MSSN said the theme for its 103rd IVC camp, which would hold simultaneously from April 13 to 17 at various centres, is: “Companions of the Right Hand.”
It said over 35,000 delegates would participate in the exercise across the centres with the formal opening slated for Saturday April 15.
In the same vein, the seventh UNIFEMGA Youth Camp will hold in CTY Model College, Alomaja, Ibadan from April 14 to 17.
In a statement by the association, the Public Relations Officer, Abdulfatai Alade, said the youths would be given health talks, Quran memorisation, Quiz and Debates, Hadith and Islamic studies, Career Talks, Sports and Vocational training, among others.
Similarly, MICA Abuja will hold a two-day event for teenagers from ages 12 to 17, entitled: “Deens for Teens.”
The event, slated for April 15 and 16, will hold at Ischolar International Academy in Abuja from 8am to 5pm daily.
A statement by the MICA Coordinator, Idris Tiamiyu, said the theme for the event is: “The World through my Window,” and is geared towards boosting the spirituality and understanding of the teenagers about their religion.
Also, Badrud-dinil Islamic Circle of Nigeria, an Islamic organization comprising of Muslim Women of diverse professions and sectors and affiliated to the Federation of Muslim Women in Nigeria, will on Friday open a four-day ICT camp for 100 Muslim youths in Ibadan.
The event, slated for April 14th to 17, 2017 at the Islamic Centre, Bodija Community Mosque, Housing, Ibadan, is sponsored by the Minister for Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu.
According to Dr. Sakinat Folorunso, the programme coordinator, the workshop was borne out of the need for improvement of the youths in the area of Information and Communication Technology.
Folorunso said: “The main objective of the programme is to prepare the youths to be self-reliant and also align them with the global trend in ICT.”
She said the four-day training workshop will be a hands-on practical session focusing on three main modules, which are: Website application development, Mobile application development and Networking.
She added: “The circle will be working in conjunction with one of the High Tech Information Technology firm: Meed Communications Limited based in Abuja.”
