Super Eagles handler, Stephen Keshi, has admitted that Nigerian side was lucky to earn a point at the expense of Wasp of Rwanda in Wednesday’s African Nations Cup qualifier in Kigali.
In a post match conference, Keshi said that he had expected a better performance from his team but posited that there are positive lessons from the game.
The former international thumped up the Rwandan side for their bravery during the encounter.
He said: “I will not say I’m satisfied with the result because that was not what we came here for, but going by what the Rwandans put up, I will say a draw is okay.
“We were very lucky not to concede a goal in the closing stages of the game.”
The former handler of Hawks of Togo stated further that he expects an improved performance in subsequent games as he continues his rebuilding process.
Also speaking in the same vein, Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, who made a record appearance for the senior national team in Kigali, lamented that the Rwandans almost shocked them.
“We did not quite have our way today in the match but credit must go to the Rwandan team for being very disciplined. We hope to play better when we meet in the return leg in Nigeria,” Yobo said.
On his part, Rwanda’s Head Coach, Milutin Sredrojevic, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the encounter.
“Nigeria is a big football nation in Africa and we knew it would b difficult beating them, but my boys were very disciplined today and I must commend them for showing grit against a great soccer playing nation,” Sredrojevic said.
