CS Sfaxien of Tunisia’s hit man and Dream Team top scorer, Junior Ajayi, is the first overseas-based professional player to hit the Flourish Resort, The Gambia camp of the Dream Team in preparation for the 2nd Africa U-23 Cup of Nations holding in Senegal from November 28 to December 12.
The ever-smiling Ajayi arrived Banjul, capital of The Gambia aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight at about 4am(5am) in Nigeria to the waiting arms of Team Secretary, Sirajo Hassan, who took him to the camp.
It was a surprise package for players and officials of the Dream Team who woke up on Sunday to behold the presence of Ajayi at breakfast, hugging and backslapping each other, welcoming him to the camp.
Ajayi, who netted the goals in Port Harcourt, Rivers State that eventually eliminated Congo Brazzaville and sent the Dream Team through to Senegal, said: “I can’t describe how I feel any time I report for national duty.
“For me, it’s an honour to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.
“This, I have come to do, God willing.
“I have come to contribute my little quota in ensuring that we not only pick an Olympic ticket, but also win the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.”
With the arrival of Ajayi, the number of players in the Dream Team camp rose to 24, with the other invited overseas-based professional promising that they will be arriving Banjul on Tuesday to be part of the team’s last friendly game in The Gambia.
