The ownership tussle of the Super Eagles player, Sunday Mba, between Rangers and Warri Wolves could be settled soon.
This is because the management of Dolphins, the team fingered in the transfer saga, has offered to state its own side of the story.
China Acheru, Dolphins spokesman, said that the club will on Wednesday make an official statement on its involvement in the Mba transfer tussle considering the fact that Dolphins was mentioned in the matter by Rangers FC Media Officer, Foster Chime.
“It is about time the club spoke because its name is being dragged into a matter concerning a player who featured for us three seasons ago,” Acheru said.
The Nigeria Professional Football League, through its Executive Secretary, Tunji Babalola, had earlier backed Warri Wolves ownership claim.
Meanwhile, with the departure of long time player and former captain of Dolphins, Emah Godwin, to Akwa United, former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Sunday Rotimi, has been named acting captain of the club.
Rotimi joined Dolphins in 2004 and has won the league twice and two FA Cups with the team.
He had been an assistant to Godwin but will now serve in acting capacity with the departure of Godwin to Uyo.
Head of the Dolphins Technical Crew, Stanley Eguma, said Rotimi has already been acting as captain and will continue to do so until he is named substantive captain of the side.
“Of course he has the qualities and that is why he was acting captain previously. Now we expect to do a good job at leading the team this season,” Eguma said.
As part of pre-season programme of the club, Dolphins will take on Bayelsa United in a friendly match at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium on Wednesday at 3pm.
Acheru said on Tuesday that the pre-season camp in Nnewi and the strenuous first two weeks of the year were more about fitness and that the club’s coaches are now into more technical and tactical issues of the game.
Acheru said: “We are through with ensuring the fitness of the players long ago. Now the coaches are imposing their style of play on the team, especially for the new players.
“It’s now about match preparation, team work, attacking and defensive formations, attacking and defending set pieces amongst others. That is why we continue to play friendly matches to get the players into real match situations.
“The game against Bayelsa United is one of those games that the results won’t matter but how well the players show what they have been taught on the training ground.”
The media officer added that the target is the league opener against Akwa United and the coaches are working to ensure that the players were at their peak at the right time.
