The Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Dr. Juliet Chukkas Onaeko, has disclosed that government was technically and gradually addressing the challenges of unemployment threatening the country’s economy.
The Director state this on Thursday during an interactive session with journalists on the platform of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the Centre for Excellence in Bukuru, Jos, Plateau State on the need to foster partnership on capacity building.
Onaeko said the government was worried over the increase in number on unemployed graduates yearly.
She said the Funds is currently partnering with the international community in training the youth on oil and gas sector and to also help reduce the high rate of expatriates coming to work in Nigeria.
“Since the establishment in 1971, government had trained over 10,000 youths on capacity, skills acquisition and vocational knowledge, with the sold purpose of fighting poverty in the country,” she said.
Dr. Onaeko expressed dismay at the level of decay of most of the infrastructural facilities and structures she saw during her tour of some of the companies in the state capital.
She stressed that the Industrial Training Fund is organizing a regular interactive session to partner with all the media organizations in the state.
Onaeko promised to refocus on training and retraining of journalists on electioneering and local government community programme.
She said: “I assure you in the ITF, we have been in good partnership with the NUJ so I will like to continue building on the past achievement of my predecessors.”
She appealed to other agencies that are willing to partner with the ITF to come and register their organizations so they can participate actively in driving the wheel of industrialisation.
Dr. Onaeko lauded President Goodluck Jonathan on his policy on capacity development, job creation and youth empowerment.
