Two officials of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission are now cooling off in the cells of the state police command.
The suspects, William Oyiboka and Glory Ugbi, were arrested after they absconded with Local Government election sensitive materials meant for Isoko South Local Government Area.
The materials, The Eagle Online gathered, were for the collation of the chairmanship and councillorship elections results in the council area.
The suspects claimed after they were arrested that political thugs snatched the materials from them.
An Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Roland Preston, who held brief for the command’s PPRO, DSP Celesina Kalu, at the police headquarters in Asaba on Wednesday, said the suspects are cooling off in their cell.
According Preston, they disappeared with the materials and later resurfaced, claiming that the said sensitive materials were snatched from them by thugs.
The officials, who were in custody of results of the area, sneaked out with the sensitive materials without the knowledge of other electoral officers, only to resurface hours after.
ASP Preston said: “William Oyiboka and Glory Ugbi are currently undergoing interrogation.”
