Dasuki to Nigerians: Beware of fraudulent security outfits

Alhaji Sambo Dasuki, the National Security Adviser, has advised the public to beware of private security organisations that defraud people with promises of security training and job placement.
Dasuki gave the advice in Abuja at a one-day workshop on: “The Importance of Security Awareness and Drills in Contemporary Nigeria.”
He said: “I advise the unemployed youths and their parents to always diligently check before getting involved in any form of recruitment.
“Some organisations always claim they have just been recognised and approved by the Federal Government as a para-military organisation, only for people to find out later that it is not true.
“The public should also know that none of our military and para-military outfits asks recruits for money before recruitment or request recruits to pay for their uniform.”
Dasuki said that the federal and state governments were working tirelessly to generate more employment opportunities for the youth through employment agencies.
He also warned Nigerians to be security conscious, adding that the government considered it appropriate to give wide publicity to the importance of security.
Dasuki, who was represented by Layiwola Laseinde, the Director, Policy and Strategy of the Office of the NSA, called on Nigerians to shun acts that promote insecurity.
He advised the average Nigerian to create an enabling environment for peace and development of the nation.
He added: “It is rather unfortunate that there are some unscrupulous Nigerians who are exacerbating and exploiting the situation for their selfish interest.
“I, therefore, use this medium to warn these elements to desist from their unholy acts against the interest of the people and the country.”
He said that the workshop would add value to the nation’s knowledge on security issues and contribute towards improving it general security.
Earlier, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, had said that the workshop was initiated by the government to ensure that Nigerians remained more security conscious.
Anyim, who was represented by Alhaji Abrahim Mahe, a permanent secretary, said that the workshop would help Nigerians understand the various precautionary ways to conduct themselves in any emergency.
He, however, advised the participants to avail themselves of the opportunity to learn from the experts drawn from various professional security agencies.
