The wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Dr. Aisha Mohammed, on Monday appealed to residents to support the state government’s partial lockdown order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
Mohammed made the appeal in her Ramadan message to the Muslim communities in the state.
She called for intensified prayers during the holy month of Ramadan for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic that has touched all sectors of human endeavours.
She said adhering to guidelines from health experts would go a long way to reduce the spread of the virus.
She described the pandemic as “divine trial”, hence the need for total submission, devotion and prayers to God.
Mohammed said: “Citizens of Bauchi State should be committed towards intensifying prayers during the Ramadan period.
“People should adhere to guidelines by health experts on curtailing the spread of the virus.
“I am a living witness of COVID-19; whatever measure is put in place by government or health experts should be accepted and practised.”
Mohammed advised women and youths to be patient during the stay-at-home period to ensure a healthy society.
She also appealed to mothers of children of under five years old to ensure that their babies completed their routine immunisation, while pregnant women should go for their regular antenatal clinics during the partial lockdown.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the state government has imposed a partial lockdown on the state, beginning from April 26.
The food and drugs suppliers, supermarkets and essential service providers are exempted from the partial lockdown.
The state government also announced Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays every week as market days from 10am to 2pm for people to restock their needs.
