A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that three men – Basiru Abubakar, 25, Alhassan Abdulahi, 20, and Sadiq Saminu, 18 –be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged unlawful possession of dangerous weapons.
The police charged the three men with conspiracy and illegal possession of dangerous weapons.
The Magistrate, Hajara Dauda, did not take the plea of Abubakar, Abdullahi and Saminu for want of jurisdiction.
Dauda ordered the police to return the case file to the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, and adjourned the case until July 28 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Inspector Sunday Baba, had told the court that the suspects were arrested at Kawo, Kaduna, by operatives of FIB- IRT Kaduna State on June 25.
Baba said that the suspects were arrested with one locally fabricated automatic pistol, one dane gun, eight cutlasses, knives and daggers.
The prosecutor stated that when they were arrested, the suspects confessed that they were on their way to Zaria to meet their gang leader, one Garba, now at large for an “operation.”
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 6(b), 2(1) and 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act RII LFN, 2004.
