An Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada, FCT, on Thursday ordered the police to investigate an allegation of cheating to the tune of N140 million against Wilson Multimedia Technology Concepts Ltd. and Wilbeko Global Resources Ltd. and their owners, Wilson and Blessing Unachukwu.
The complainants, Olusola Babalola and Yusuf Adebayo alleged that they loaned Wilson Multimedia Technology Concepts Ltd. and Wilbeko Global Resources Ltd. and their owners, Wilson and Blessing Unachukwu N140 million to invest in a contract and return same.
They alleged that they were cheated of the amount.
Delivering a ruling, the Judge, Sani Umar, ordered that the matter be referred to the Commissioner of Police, FCT for further investigation.
Umar said that the Deputy Inspector- General of Police has written to all FCT courts that cases should no longer be referred to police teams or the Inspector- General of police office for investigation.
According to him, cases should be referred to the Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders or Police Divisions in the FCT for investigation.
“This letter by the DIG of police informed this order as directed by the Chief Justice of the FCT and Grand Khadi of FCT.” he said.
The Judge adjourned the case until March 29 for mention.
Earlier, counsel for the complainants, R.A. Sadiq objected to the motion by the defence counsel, M.A. Igwe that the matter be referred to I-G Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters for investigation.
Sadiq said that the defence counsel has no right to decide where a case should be referred to for investigation.
He said the case, alleged criminal breach of trust contravened the provision of section 312 of the penal Code.
