The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abdullahi Candido, has called on residents of the council to cultivate the habit of protecting government’s projects in their localities.
Candido made the call on Friday in Abuja, while inaugurating some completed projects embarked upon by his administration as part of activities to mark his 100 days in office.
Available reports indicate that some of the projects inaugurated were a community borehole at Karshi, blocks of classrooms at Azhata and a skill acquisition centre at karu.
The chairman also laid the foundation of a new market in Kurudu, which is to be built under a public private partnership arrangement to decongest the existing market.
Candido expressed optimism that the borehole would end water scarcity, and improve the lives of the people in the areas.
He added that a special committee would be inaugurated to manage the ten pump boreholes provided across the council to ensure their maintenance.
The chairman, however, appreciated a woman that donated part of her compound for a water project and promised to name the street after her, adding that other residents should emulate her kind gesture.
Candido promised to reconstruct the dilapidated road leading to the street where the borehole was located after the rainy season.
At the inauguration of a toilet facility by the FCT Administration at Nyanya Area “F”, Babatunde Ajakaye, the Permanent Secretary FCT Administration, admonished the people to make good use of the facility.
Ajakaye, however, charged the people of Nyanya to keep faith with the administration, adding that it was poised to deliver more democratic dividends to them.
Some of the residents of the area, who spoke with newsmen, expressed gratitude to the AMAC administration for fulfilling its campaign promises.
David Yusuf, a resident, thanked the chairman for remembering the people by building classrooms for their children.
Yusuf commented: “These classrooms will go a long way to make learning easy for our children; there will be no need for them to sit on the floor to learn again.”
Tina Napoleon, a business woman at the Nyanya motor park, also expressed her gratitude to AMAC for building the public convenience with borehole for their use.
According to her, the facility will help make the environment clean and eradicate open defecation in the area.
