Corpses found in Anambra river those of our members – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has said that the corpses found floating in Ezzu River, Amansea, Anambra State, were those of its members.
According to MASSOB’s Director of Information, Uchenna Madu, the floating bodies were those of members of the group allegedly killed by policemen.
Madu said the MASSOB members were arrested by the police for offences they were not told and allegedly killed.
He said they were arrested by a combined team of the army, policemen and State Security Service and detained at the Anambra State Special Anti-Robbery Squad cell in November 2012.
He said: “Efforts by our counsel to secure their bail from the police proved futile.
“Our demands for their arraignment before a competent court of law were frustrated by SARS officers.
“They claimed that the court was not sitting because of Christmas.”
Madu listed some of those allegedly killed by the policemen as Basil Ogbu, Michael Ogwa, Sunday Omogo, Philip Nwankpa, Eze Ndubisi, Ebuka Eze, Obinna Ofor, Joseph Udoh and Uchechukwu Ejiofor.
He said MASSOB has already written a petition to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, over the killing.
But the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Emeka Chukwuemeka, dismissed the claim.
Chukwuemeka said the police were still awaiting the report of the autopsy carried out on the corpses.
