The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday warned indigenes and residents of the state to be mindful of the law prohibiting the use of knock-out and other fireworks during festive periods.
The command, which maintained that the law is still in force, said it has deployed detectives to monitor and apprehend any person or persons violating the law.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, who urged parents and guardians at the state headquarters in Asaba, advised them to watch out for their children and wards and guide them appropriately.
Kalu, who enumerated the dangers involved in throwing the substance in the air and on roof tops, listed reported cases of those that have been wounded in the process.
While she cautioned its manufacturers, she said the monitoring detectives would not spare those selling the substance in open places.
According to Kalu, anyone arrested will be prosecuted according to the law.
She also warned those with criminal tendencies to have a rethink or relocate from the state, maintaining that the command’s operation “fire for fire” is still in force.
She added: “While we pray for a peaceful celebration this year, we are more than ever determined to force criminals out of this state. We have spread out our dragnets, and detectives are all over the place monitoring the activities of hoodlums. We are prepared for insurgents.”
