Vincent Tan, the Cardiff City owner, has assured relatives of Emiliano Sala he will pay for the striker to be repatriated to Argentina after his body was recovered from the English Channel on Thursday.
The wreckage of a single-engine Piper Malibu N264DB was discovered on Sunday evening, having disappeared on January 21 as Sala flew from Nantes in France to Cardiff.
Cardiff are on Saturday likely to be given permission by the Premier League to again wear commemorative shirts – with yellow daffodils – at Southampton.
Sala’s former club Nantes, meanwhile, announced they would retire their No 9 shirt, previously worn by the striker.
Sala’s body had been taken by ship to Portland Port on Thursday, where a coroner confirmed his identity with the assistance of police.
The aircraft remains 67 metres under water, 21 miles off the coast of Guernsey, and there has been no sign so far of the English pilot, Dave Ibbotson, 59.
On Friday, Sala’s sister, Romina, led tributes to the popular footballer after his death had been confirmed.
Sergio Aguero and Mauricio Macri, the Argentina president, have also sent condolences.
Tan expressed the condolences of the club to Sala’s family and said Cardiff would continue to work with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch to determine the cause of the crash.
Both Southampton and Cardiff are expected to wear black armbands at St Mary’s and a minute’s silence will be observed before kick-off.
Nantes and Cardiff are involved in a dispute over Sala’s transfer, with the French club having demanded the first £5.27 million instalment be paid within the next week.
Club sources said the Premier League had reassured them they would not face any points deduction.
Vahid Halilhodzic, the Nantes manager, looked gaunt on Friday as he spoke after confirmation of the death of his former player.
“We always kept hope, knowing full well it was almost an illusion. The truth has fallen – terrible, unfair,” Halilhodzic said. “The situation is a little different for families. But it’s terrible. We can now pay tribute to someone who will leave an eternal mark on this club, with his behaviour, his modesty.”
