Jonathan Pitroipa, Stallions of Burkina Faso danger man, has been cleared to play the final match of the African Cup of Nations against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Sunday.
The decision was taken during the meeting of the CAF Disciplinary Board held on February 8, 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The CAF examined the protest made by the Football Association of Burkina Faso concerning the sanction imposed on the player, with jersey number 11, during the 30th match Burkina Faso played against Ghana in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in South Africa in Mbombela on February 6, 2013 and came up with the verdict that the red card issued to Pitripa was unjustifiable.
The CAF Disciplinary Board said: “Following the examination of the referee’s report as well as his additional report in which M. Slim Jdidi recognizes having made a mistake by giving a 2nd yellow card to player no 11 of Burkina Faso. The CAF Refereeing Committee advising the cancelation of the 2nd yellow card imposed upon Jonathan Pitroipa.
“The Disciplinary Board decided to validate the recommendation of the CAF Refereeing Committee and to cancel the 2nd yellow card given to player no.11 of Burkina Faso. This decision is taken, fundamentally, in conformity with the dispositions of article 11 of CAF Disciplinary Code.”
