Coach of Sunshine FC of Akure, Gbenga Ogunbote, fulfilled his boast before the CAF Champions League match against Recreativo of Angola this evening that despite the heavy 4-1 loss in the first leg, his side will qualify for the next round.
The Akure-based side qualified for the next round with a resounding 3-0 defeat of their Angolan foe.
With the away goal rule counting as two, Sunshine moves into the next round after the 4-4 goals aggregate.
Sunshine goals were scored by Azuka Izu in the 20th minute, Godfrey Oboabona in the 33rd minute via a penalty kick and Dele Olurundare made it three in the 77th minute.
With the victory, Sunshine will now meet Djibotu of Mali in the next round.
But for Nigeria’s other representative in the championship, Dolphins FC, the news was not cheery.
Dolphins crashed out of the championship this afternoon when it lost to Cotton Sports of Cameroon.
The Nigerian side had won the first leg 2-1 at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt but lost today’s game by a lone goal.
The same away goal rule that counted in favour of Sunshine, worked against Dolphins.
