For the first time in 15 years, the Bundesliga has edged past the English Premier League in UEFA’s coefficient rankings.
Germany’s top flight is now only behind Spain’s La Liga in the list of the most successful leagues in European competition across the five-year cycle between 2011/12 and the coming 2015/16 season, UEFA has said.
German clubs have consistently performed well in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in recent years.
Bayern München have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the last four seasons, appearing in the final in 2012 and in 2013, when they defeated Borussia Dortmund.
Additionally, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Schalke 04 have both reached the last 16 of the competition in three of the last four years, while VfL Wolfsburg also reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League last term.
StarTimes has signed a five-year deal in July to broadcast the German Bundesliga men football league exclusively in Nigeria and across Africa on its sport channels – World Football, Sports Premium, Sports Life, Sports Arena and Focus.
