The eighth day Fidau prayers for Pa Ademola Fashola, the father of Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, was held on Tuesday in Lagos with a charge to leaders to live exemplary life.
Fashola died on August 5 at the age of 79.
A former Head of State, retired General Muhammadu Buhari, and the Speaker of House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, were among prominent Nigerians who attended the event held at Tafawa Balewa Square.
Others included the governors of Ogun, Kano, Niger, Edo, Osun, Kogi, Jigawa and Oyo States.
In a sermon on the occasion, Sheik Abdul Ahmed, the Chief Missioner of Ansar-Ur-Deen Society of Nigeria, said death was the necessary end of man.
Ahmed said: “Death is the end of every man.
“What is important is that leaders should live exemplary life.
“This will make them to be celebrated after their demise as their deeds will live after them.
“It is not the number of years we spend on the earth that matters, but how well we live.”
Ahmed urged political leaders to fulfill their promises to the people who elected them and also shun abuse of power and arrogance.
NAN also reports that business moguls and industrialists, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, a foremost banker, Chief Subomi Balogun and Chief Rasaq Okoya, were also present at the Fidau prayers led by Alhaji Muheedeen Bello.
Also in attendance were chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, including a former Governor of Ekiti State, Adeniyi Adebayo; and a former Governor of Yobe State, Adamu Aileru.
