The Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State has been shut by the authorities after a religious riot.
The clash, between Christian Muslim students, resulted in the razing of a lecture theatre, a mosque and the vandalisation of the female hostel.
According to available information, the crisis started on Sunday after Christian students were accused of insulting the Islamic religion by Muslim students under the aegis of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria.
Students of both faith then clashed, resulting in the drafting of soldiers to quell the riot on Sunday.
The clash spilled over into Monday, prompting the authorities to shut the school.
However, sources said the clash was over elective positions in the Students Union Government.
Muslim students were said to have last week complained that Christians half virtually all the positions.
Following the tension that arose from the dispute, a Muslim student allegedly attacked a Christian student holding a position in the SUG, accusing him of having blasphemed the Islamic religion.
Other students then joined in the fray.
