The Doyen of Highlife music in Nigeria, Dr. Victor Abimbola Olaiya, is dead.
His death was announced by the Managing Director of Evergreen Music Company Limited, Bimbo Esho, on Wednesday.
The statement said Olaiya died on Wednesday at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday at 12pm.
Esho added: “We pray that the Doyen of highlife music find repose with the creator while wishing the family and entire music community the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
“And to my name sake Abimbola Olaiya I will miss your contribution to HIGHLIFE MUSIC.”
Olaiya turned 89 on December 31, 2019.
