The Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, said the team’s match against Bosnia-Herzegovina was a very difficult one for the team.
The match, played on Saturday, saw Osaze Odemwinge scoring the lone goal for Nigeria in the 29th minute.
It came off a pass from Emmanuel Emenike.
Yobo said that the team defended well and deserved the full points in the highly contested Group F tie decided in Cuiaba, Brazil.
He said: “We spoke to ourselves and decided we just have to go all out for victory if not we could be out of the competition.
“We all defended well and concentration was high all through.
“We also decided to step up our game compared to the performance against Iran.
“Bosnia are also very good and they did well, but we had an edge over them generally.
“We deserve our three points.”
Yobo said the victory would impact positively on the team in subsequent games in the competition.
He said: “Now, we are going to build on this win and take the confidence into other games, starting with the match against Argentina.”
The Norwich City defender earned his 99th cap for Nigeria with the game against Bosnia and is on the verge of becoming the first Nigerian player to hit the century mark if he features as expected against Argentina.
Yobo, however, said he was not particular about reaching the 100th cap for the Super Eagles.
Yobo spoke on this development: “I am not particular about the 100 caps achievement.
“My focus is on getting victories for the team as much as possible here in Brazil.
“I agree it’s going to be a special one for me because it’s going to show how far I have gone for the country over the years.”
