The Borno Government on Friday approved the renovation and upgrading of the state Psychiatric Hospital to ease treatment of victims of drug abuse.
The state Commissioner for Justice, Malam Kaka Shehu, announced the approval while addressing newsmen in Maiduguri.
Shehu said that the Ministry of Health had been mobilised to begin the renovation.
“For now all patients of drug abuses are being managed at the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH),” he said.
He said that the state government would also organise rehabilitation programmes on skill acquisition for psychiatric patients.
“This is to enable them to live a normal life and empower them to engage in social and economic activities after treatment,” Shehu said.
NAN reports that available record shows that the FNPH, Maiduguri, has rehabilitated 40,000 patients in the last 10 years. (NAN)
