Terra Kulture Theatre Arena, the first privately owned theatre in Nigeria, recorded 240,000 visitors and tourists in 2018.
Its Managing Director, Bolanle Austen-Peters, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.
She said the figure was higher when compared with 170,000 local and foreign tourists as well as visitors who patronised the arena in 2017.
Austen-Peters said the arena also recorded more film shows and stage productions in 2018, adding that they included: Queen Moremi Ajasoro and The Fela Queens.
She said: “The stage plays at the theatre attracted numerous visitors and tourists in 2018 when compared with 170,000 visitors in 2017.
“The patronage in 2018 was encouraging and we have set up a new year revolutionary plans for 2019 to increase visitors’ turnout.
“Twenty thousand of local and foreign tourists do visit the arena monthly either for sightseeing, researches, facility tour and excursion and to watch stage plays,” she told NAN.
According to her, the 400-seater theatre arena usually has more than 1,000 skilled and unskilled workers during film productions.
Austen-Peters said the entertainment industry was capable of creating employment opportunities for millions of Nigerians, adding that it was capable of boosting government’s revenue earnings.
She said the mini-theatre arts construction projects which her establishment was partnering the Lagos State Government to provide would be ready for inauguration by month end.
She said: “Most of the theatres have been completely built except one or two that are 95 per cent completed.
“The theatres locations are in: Epe, Ikorodu, Badagry, Alimosho and Mainland.
“Sure, we plan to commission the five theatres across the divisional areas by the end of January.”
