The National Emergency Management Agency has said there is no truth in message that has gone viral on the social media that members of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram, are operating on the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
NEMA was reacting to the message that claimed that members of Boko Haram had killed nine policemen and 11 civilians on the road on Wednesday.
The position of the agency was contained in a statement aired by Channels Television.
The spokesman of the agency in the South West, Ibrahim Farinloye, said it was a rumour.
Farinloye said security agents had combed the entire stretch of the road and found nothing suspicious.
Checks by The Eagle Online with the police commands in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States also came back negative.
At the federal level, the police debunked the message, saying it was a rumour.
Writing on its Twitter handle, the police said the traffic on the road was occasioned by a fallen truck that had goods in it.
The Force said it was working with other agencies to clear the road.
However, a citizen reporter, who was traveling on the road when the news went viral, told The Eagle Online that there were only traffic points on the road.
This, he said, was occasioned by the ongoing construction work on the over 150km road and the accident mentioned by the police.
