The Delta State police command on July 7, 2021 arrested nine members of the Aiye Confraternity (aka Black Axe).
Against the backdrop of information that member so the group planned to mark their annual ‘7/7’ (Boogie Night) on July 7, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Warri, CSP T. Y. Mahmud, led men of the divisional Rapid Respond Squad on visibility patrol, and arrested one Oghenewaro Bebe, 21, of 22 of Ughoton area in Okpe Local Government Area in full regalia of Black Axe Confraternity.
The suspect, according to the command’s spokesmamn, DSP Bright Edafe, confessed to being a member of the cult group, and led the officers to Ughoton community, where eight other members of the group were arrested.
Other members of the cult group arrested were Oritsetusem Fenemigho, 29; Weyinmi Onomakponi, 35; Emmanuel Edah, 27; Osro Etiosa, 23; Oshef Benji, 27; Confidence Sunday, 18; Akintemeyin James, 18; and Hope Agbogidi, the only female, 25.
Exhibits recovered from them include two locally made pistols, one battles axe, one long cutlass, five customized Aiye pillows, one customized centre table with Aiye logo, one AK-47, expended ammunition, necklace used as body protection charm, two HP laptops, six iPhones, two suspected stolen Lexus car keys, one original and a duplicate copy.
The said Oritseusen Fenemigho equally led the polie team to Idimi Osobo under Okere Urhobo, where suspected stolen car was recovered.
In another development, on July 8, 2021 at about 1130hrs, men of Operation Delta Hawk patrol teams on Stop and Search duty along Cable Point, Asaba, apprehended one Esealuka Paul, 17.
When a search was conducted on him,68 sachets of dried weed suspected to be Indian hemp, 33 sachets of SK, six packs of Razler and one lighter were found on him.
The Commissioner of Police while thanking members of the public for their cooperation has urged parents and guardians to monitor their wards, and advise them against cultism.
