The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the beheading of a septuagenarian couple at Itumbuzo, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The confirmation was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Maureen Chinaka, on Friday.
Chinaka said that on October 2, the Police at the Bende Divisional Headquarters received a murder report at 8:30am.
She said the police were told that Udo Jacob, 78, and his wife, Dorcas Jacob, 73, were found lifeless in the pool of their blood in their compound.
She said the couple were natives of Ndiwo, Itumbuzo, but lived at Etiti-Ulo in the same Bende LGA, where they were murdered.

She said: “Upon receiving this report, the crime scene was visited and corpses deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
“Three suspects were arrested in connection with the heinous crime and are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Umuahia.”
Chinaka said the Command’s Commissioner, CP Danladi Isa, expressed concern over the unfortunate incident at Itumbuzo.
She said the Commissioner had also appealed to the people of Abia State to remain calm and law-abiding.
She said CP Isa further assured Abia State residents that the mystery behind this criminal act will be unravelled to ensure prompt dispensation of justice.
