Bayelsa Restoration Cup: Winners claim prize three months after

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the prize money was given to the winners, the first and second runners-up and other consolidation prizes three months after the tournament ended in May.
The tournament’s winners, which were decided after the final and semi-final matches are Peretorugbene Community team who came first and claimed the sum of N5 million.
The first runners-up, Opu-Nembe Community team got N3 million, while the second and third runners-up, Toru-Orua and Otuasega communities’ teams received N2 million and N500,000 respectively.
Individual prize winners also received a token of N100, 000, including the Most Valuable Player, Omonibeke Ebi (Peretorugbene team).
Others are: the Highest Goal Scorer with seven goals, Junior Christopher (Agudama team) and the Best Goalkeeper, Gbainsele Gas (Peretorugbene).
The tournament’s Media Director, Daniel Alabrah, congratulated the top four teams and apologised for the delay in rwarding them with the prize money.
Alabrah said: “We apologise for the delay in the payment of the prize monies. It was due to the disappointment from one of our sponsors.
“But thank God for the assistance from our amiable governor, who didn’t hesitate to approve the funds when he heard about the situation.
“It is a pointer to the fact that he has the interest of youths of our state at heart.”
The Commissioner for Sports, Perekiye Buruboyefe, while congratulating the winners, urged the teams to make good use of the money by leaving a footprint in their communities.
He added that the state government would soon release details of the proposed inter-local government football, wrestling and swimming competitions.
