Barcelona are readying themselves to make an enticing offer to striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports.
The Uruguayan has fallen down the pecking order behind Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United, and was understood to have been looking to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
Cavani was persuaded to stay by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in order to play in front of the returning supporters following the crowd shut-outs caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier in the week, Catalonian publication Mundo Deportivo outlined that Cavani would be willing to join the new Barca era under recently appointed boss Xavi Hernandez, and would have no issues with playing in the Europa League.
Barca have dropped down to the second tier of European football competition, after failing to progress from the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2001.
There is now a more pressing need for firepower at the Nou Camp, following the shock announcement of Sergio Aguero’s retirement.
Aguero sobbed uncontrollably as he admitted he had been forced to retire by a heart condition, at the camp Nou on Wednesday.
In front of Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, who had flown in especially for the Argentinian’s farewell announcement, Aguero admitted hearing the news that his career was over aged 33 was hard to take.
“It’s not up to me,” he said. “It will be up to others.”
And to much laugher he added with a cheeky smile: “It’s possible I was a crack (great player).”
