Baga: We got a distress call, says Defence spokesman

Authorities at the Defence Headquarters on Monday insisted that military personnel were deployed to Baga, Borno State sequel to a distress call made by the villagers.
Speaking, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, told Defence Correspondents that as at Sunday, they had only a record of 25 and one deaths on the part of the insurgents and the military respectively.
Olukolade said: “The information we have here is that the attack was from Boko Haram insurgents and there was a distress call on the military that intervened immediately.
“The only casualty we had as at yesterday was just 25 insurgents and then we lost a soldier.
“Actually, it was a soldier who was in a team to go and rescue the villagers that was a victim.”
Asked about civilian causalities, the DDI said he was yet to get the proper record.
He said: “I don’t have that record now.
“That is why I told you that you should give me some time to confirm the casualty figure in that respect.
“I wont want to tell you what is not accurate or properly given to me.”
