The Anambra State House of Assembly on Thursday confirmed the list of 19 commissioner-nominees sent to it by Governor Willie Obiano for approval.
The commissioner nominees were confirmed at the plenary after the presentation of the report of the screening committee headed by Hon. Chukwudi Orizu (APGA-Nnewi North).
Orizu said the nominees were found worthy to hold the respective portfolios after the committee interacted with them and screened their documents.
He said that the committee had advised the government to explore ways of compensating the local government areas that were not represented in the appointment.
The chairman of the committee also urged the government to follow Section 14 (4) of the Nigerian Constitution while giving political appointments to the people.
Orizu said that Idemili South and Awka South local government areas had two nominees each.
The list included Dr. Chinedu Emeka, a former Deputy Governor in the administration of Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, as the designated Commissioner for Water and Public Utilities.
Two former commissioners in Governor Peter Obi’s administration, Callistus Ilozumba and Azuka Okeke, retained their portfolios in the Ministry of Works and Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs respectively.
Others are a former member of the Nigeria Football Association, Chief Tony Nnacheta, who is penciled as the Commissioner for Sports.
Prof. Kate Emenugha, a Professor of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, will be in the Ministry of Education.
Also confirmed are Anali Chude, as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; Gringory Obi, Finance; Florence Chinwuba, Housing; and Prof. Solomon Chukwu, Economic Planning and Budget.
The list also included Ifeatu Onyejeme, Trade and Commerce; Anthony Onyimah, Information; Ricky Chukwumelu, Women Affairs; Chukwuma Mbonu, Transport; Evaristus Ubah, Environment; Stella Onuorah, Land; and Norbert Obi, Special Duties.
Dr. Joseph Akabuike, Health; Nnamdi Meko, Agriculture; and Osita Obinwankwo, Science and Technology, were also confirmed.
