Aribo ruled out of Rangers’ Europa League tie

Joe Aribo is likely to be unavailable once again when Rangers visit Young Boys today (Thursday).
The 23-year-old sat out Saturday’s 5-0 win over Aberdeen after he sustained a head injury in last week’s Betfred Cup win against Livingston. And this game may come too soon for Aribo, who wore a protective skull cap in training on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old needed 20 stitches to his head after being taken down by Livingston defender Ricki Lamie when the two sides faced off for a spot in the semi final last week.
Aribo was seen bleeding profusely before he was taken off after half an hour of the match in West Lothian and missed Rangers 5-0 win over Aberdeen.
At the time of the incident, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was angry with the challenge.
He said: “I don’t think Lamie has meant to do him. I don’t think he’s that type. But in my opinion, it was serious foul play.
“There were a few head knocks and couple the last time we played this team as well.
“Is it skirting close to dangerous play? You are the people who have to write about that and have an opinion on that. A boy has just gone off with 20 stitches in his head.
“Now, I have watched Lamie long enough to know he is not that type of player. I’m not accusing him of anything out of order.
“But that is serious foul play because he has led with the elbow and Joe has been caught.”
