APGA official says party may not win Ekiti gubernatorial poll

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance said on Thursday that the party might not win Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.
The Chairman of the party, Campbell Umehnzekwe, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that APGA’s belief was influenced by the late entry of the party’s candidate into the race.
Umehnzekwe said: “We, the national body, did not go there for campaign because of the late arrival of our candidate.
“So, we cannot say that we have any good stand there now.
“The candidate came late because of the issue of who will bring the candidate.
“Maxi Okwu’s faction, which said it was going to court, went to say that it should be the one to produce the candidate.
“So, after due consideration, the main leadership of APGA produced the candidate of APGA in Ekiti and Osun States.
“So, in Ekiti State, we came late but we are working.
“But the chances of APGA there we cannot say it’s clear.
“The All Progressives Congress had overtaken the race before others sprang up, but in Osun, we will showcase our system.”
Umehnzekwe charged the Independent National Electoral Commission to guard against wrongful allocation of election materials.
He urged the commission to ensure that election materials were provided early enough for voting to begin.
Eighteen political parties have shown interest to contest the Ekiti State gubernatorial poll, which would hold on June 21.
