The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to beam its searchlight on the activities of Governor Ayodele Fayose and his business associates in the execution of the new airport and market projects in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said in a statement on Monday that the alarm became imperative in the face of mind-boggling revelations in the execution of the proposed projects by Fayose, using his business associates as fronts to misappropriate the state’s money like he did during his first term in the moribund poultry project.
Listing instances of cloudy deals through which the governor allegedly awarded questionable contracts to his family members and friends, Olatunbosun said: “Dothraki International Limited, a business name owned by one of Fayose’s sons, was contracted for the projects on road signs and Christmas lights within Ado Ekiti in December last year. The contract, which gulped millions of naira, was used to siphon Ekiti money to Fayose’s family private account with flagrant disregard to due process
“Grid Associates Nig Ltd, owned by Arch. Abiodun Fari, Fayose’s close friend who featured prominently in the EFCC Case against Fayose on corruption charges is the same company which the governor has been using as conduit pipe to corner to corner government contracts.
“It is the company constructing the building on Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka burial ground at Fajuyi area in the state capital and also the one handling the construction of Oja Oba Market, Ado-Ekiti, both as consultant and contractor.
“This is against the due process law. The market is contracted at the cost of N3.378 billion. None of the contracts went through Due Process Office.”
The party also listed Shehu & Partner Nig Ltd, a company allegedly owned by Fayose’s Northern based business associate, as another company handling the governor’s controversial airport project.
The statement by Olatunbosun added: “The company is the one handling both the consultancy (monitoring/ supervision/evaluation) and construction of the airport. The project cost is N5.885 billion
“Information at our disposal alleged that the governor went home with N50m from the clearing of the site from the contractor through the Commissioner for Works, Kayode Oso, while the contractor took N50million as the clearing cost.
“Our information also confirmed that the alleged business deal between Fayose/ Kayode Oso and his Northern contractor friend is on 50/50 basis.
“In all this, the Federal Government with exclusive right to build and manage airports/airways is not being carried along because of Fayose’s business interest. The airport project is Fayose’s priority to serve his personal pocket at the expense of Ekiti workers, pensioners and common people who are being deprived of their wages and infrastructure that would have benefitted all.”
