The Niger State Government on Sunday said it has uncovered another plot by the All Progressives Congress to blackmail the state Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, of alleged said of 20 per cent of the state government’s shares of the Shiroro hydro power station.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Aliyu, Israel A. Ebije, alerted the general public of what it termed another smear campaign by the APC.
Ebije dismissed the claim as false, misleading and provocative, adding that it is another desperate propaganda by the opposition to rubbish effort of the Aliyu administration.
The statement by Ebije said: “The opposition has realized earlier allegation claiming Niger state government secured a N5bn loan for rigging election was dismissed by reasonable electorates. No bank will give that amount of money for any purpose few weeks to election. Besides Niger state PDP does not need to spend money on electorates who are set to vote the party.
“We have therefore uncovered another plot by the APC to accuse government of selling shares of Niger stake of the Shiroro dam. It is indeed instructive to intimate that no investor will purchase such stake when they know it belongs to over 4million Nigerlites.
“It is indeed very shocking, very unfortunate and very sadistic of the opposition to diminish itself in the estimation of right thinking Nigerlites because it wants to score cheap political points. Their earlier N5bn loan blackmail has failed and now plot to sell another lie? Nigerlites should beware of the opposition, they are deceitful, self serving and have no vision for the state.”
The governor’s spokesman further intimated that the Niger State APC is sensational, irrational and reckless in their propaganda war against the government of Dr. Aliyu.
He said they have refused to be issue-based instead of relying on sentiment or hate capable of causing civil unrest in the state.
Ebije therefore cautioned the opposition on the need to be issue-based, adding that already they have lost considerable respect on account of their politics of hate, campaign of lies and infamous reputation of physical violence against supporters of the ruling party.
