Jime who represents Makurdi/Guma in the green chamber of the National Assembly was waylaid at the Ugbema Junction Toll Gate close to the River Katsina-Ala head bridge by the gang numbering about 10.
The assailants who were in a Red Toyota car popularly called “First Lady” were reported to have carried machetes and guns which they used to disperse supporters of the aspirant who assembled in the area to welcome him before they struck.
It was gathered that the federal lawmaker was on his way to attend a church service organized in his honour at Zaki-Biam, when the gunmen, apparently getting wind of his mission, first attacked his supporters who assembled at the Ugbema Junction singing party songs and carrying placards with inscription, “Jime 2015”.
It was gathered that the governorship aspirant however, escaped unhurt but some of his supporters who sustained injuries in the attack that lasted over ten minutes, were rushed to nearby private clinics for treatment.
The Police Spokesperson, Daniel Ezeala said he was yet to receive briefings on the matter. He however advised youths against embarking on violent campaigns to heat up the polity.
