A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr Kayode Ojo, has challenged youths to channel their energy and creativity towards creating jobs and helping to solve Nigeria’s unemployment problem.
Ojo said the current unemployment crisis cannot be handled by government alone.
He gave the charge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday at his country-home, Ikoro-Ekiti, in Ijero-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Ojo, a governorship aspirant in the 2022 APC’s governorship primary election, commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for being a creative governor.
He noted that people had always talked about youths as agents of change, but never as much as they do today.
“Is this because the elders have failed us? Or is it because we are suddenly or gradually realising the dynamism of youths in national development?
“Our elders often say that you can push an old man around because you know what he is, but never push a youth because you never know what he will grow up to become.
“This clearly underscores the potential of young people today. You can never predict what a youth can be or what he or she is capable of doing.
“Young people are still within the process of growth. They have vitality, and their spirit of curiosity and exploration is manifested in their ability to invent, explore, discover and recover things.
“They are loaded with ideas, potential, knowledge and understanding about how things should be effectively done.”
He commended Governor Fayemi for living up to the promises in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state, particularly in the areas of Social Security Scheme, Youth in Commercial Agriculture, Foodbank policy and other anti-poverty initiatives.
