Anthony Joshua insists he is in favour of a fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte, although he can’t help but think it’s unnecessary.
The unified heavyweight champion approached both men with offers to face him on April 13 at Wembley Stadium, with both men rejecting his proposals, and now the WBC are set to order them to face one another.
Fury will first meet Tom Schwarz on June 15 and Whyte must get past Oscar Rivas on July 20.
After that, they will be told to negotiate with one another and have both declared they are willing to make the fight happen – although this is far from a guarantee that it will.
Joshua told iFL TV: “Good luck to them both. Fury could fight me – ‘lineal’ champion and that – we could do it in London.
“And Dillian hasn’t got to go the long route, he could’ve fought me for all the belts.
“So each one has got their own plan, but yeah, good luck to them both.
“Fury wants to be a champion, he wants to kind of add to that ‘lineal’ status, so he should’ve fought me or he could fight me.
“And then Dillian… he could fight me for all the belts, but he wants to go a different route.
“Good luck to them both, it’s a good fight I’ll watch, but they haven’t got to go round that route, they can come direct.”
