Though the issue of fake news has been a recurrent phenomenon in the Nigerian media space, it was not really as pronounced in the journalism profession until the emergence of blogs.
Most bloggers are known to go to any length to generate traffic for their blogs even if it means publishing false information about a person.
For Annie Idibia, it came as a rude shock when she read a report claiming her husband, Tuface Idibia was pleading with the public to pray for his wife because she had cancer.
The reporter shared a photo of Annie from a photoshoot few years ago, where she was transformed to look like a cancer patient for a campaign.
Annie reacted to the article and demanded that it be taken down immediately.
She wrote: “Why Would Anyone Do This Just To Get Traffic To Their Blog!!!
“This Was A Campaign I Did With A Very Creative Makeup Artists Against Cancer 3 Or 4 Years Ago I Think! It’s Really Unfair To Post Such A LIE Just For Traffic! Whoever did this, I Pray That You Or Your Love one DONT Encounter This! This Isn’t A Joke! TAKE IT DOWN NOW!”
