Anambra records 36 murder cases in four months

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Hosea Karma, said on Wednesday that no fewer than 36 murder cases had been reported in the state between January and April.
Karma made the disclosure in his office at Amawbia, near Awka, when members of the state Assembly Committee on Police Affairs and Security visited him.
He said most of the murder cases were fratricidal in nature.
He said: “We recorded many cases of brother killing brother, son killing father, son against mother or sister, and other similar issues
“Since January this year, the state has recorded no fewer than 36 murder cases.
“We recorded nine murder cases in January, five in February, 15 in March and seven in April.
“This is giving us sleepless nights in Anambra after we had solved the problem of armed robbery, kidnapping and cult related activities, but we are not going to allow it to continue.”
The CP also said the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra were sources of headache too for the command.
Karma decried the activities of herdsmen, which he said had prompted Goverbor Willie Obiano to set up a committee on the issue.
He said the herdsmen committee was headed by himself with the military, civil defence and the Department of State Services as members.
On the IPOB and MASSOB activities, he warned agitators to stop the action as they would be dealt with.
“They should not push us to the wall and expect us to continue to keep quiet,” the commissioner warned.
Karma commended the state Assembly for passing the law that allowed the demolition of assets acquired through kidnappings and urged the lawmakers to maintain the good work.
Karma thanked the people of the state for always availing the police with useful information that led to breakthroughs by the command.
In his speech, the committee Chairman, Victor Okoye, said the lawmakers were on the visit to seek synergy with the police in crime control.
Okay said: “If we do not understand each other, we will be having conflicts.
“We passed a motion recently commending the police to maintain the tempo of its fight in the area of security.”
The chairman pledged to work with the police in protecting lives and property in the state.
