Lagos-based MFM FC will play their hearts out in their Match Day 29 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League against Wikki Tourists on Sunday, the team’s Media Officer, Olawale Quadri, has said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that MFM had lost their rescheduled Match Day 28 fixtures 0-1 to Rivers United on Wednesday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Quadri told NAN on Friday that the team was battle-ready to face the Savannah Boys in order to give the team a shot at NPFL trophy.
The high-flying MFM had, however, drew the first fixture against Wikki Tourists in Bauchi where they played 1-1.
MFM have not shied away from their resort to win the league in the second stint at the premier summit or at least a continental spot, an ambition clearly they stated at the beginning of the season.
Quadri said that the team would ensure the last season’s mistake where the team drew Wikki in Bauchi but lost to the same team at Agege to repeat.
He said: “We will set out for a must win game and we are prepared for the win on Sunday so as to forestall the repeat of what happened last year.
“Last year, we drew them at away only for them to come and shock us at home with a win. This year, we have also drawn them but this time around it is a must win.
“We are resolute on either winning the league or at least a continental spot that is our target and we will work towards that. We want to dislodge Plateau United.
“The coach has charged all the players on what is at stake and how important every game played now is toward our aspiration.”
MFM and Wikki Tourists have met thrice in the NPFL, with the Savannah Boys having the upper hand. They have match statistics of one win, and two draws.
The Olukoya Boys currently sit second on the NPFL log with 46 points from 28 matches. They have 14 wins, 4 draws and 10 losses.
Wikki Tourists on the other hand occupy the 13th position with 37 points from 28 matches with 11 wins, four draws and 13 losses.
