Ahead of his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Monday met with the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The duo met in Abuja at the residence of Tinubu, a day after Akpabio also met with President Muhammadu Buhari in London.
President Buhari, who is in London on a working visit, received Akpabio on Sunday morning.
The Eagle Online had last week reported a meeting between Akpabio and Tinubu in his Lagos residence, which turned out to be false.
Akpabio is due to defect to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday.
The defection will take place at the Ikot Ekpene Stadium in Akwa Ibom State.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is expected to receive Akpabio into the party.
Among those expected to be at the ceremony are the Presidential Liaison Officer to the National Assembly (Senate), Senator Ita Enang.
Twelve members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly are said to be on the move to the APC with the PDP.
The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Moses Ekpo, is also said to be set to defect to the APC with Akpabio.
Ekpo, it was learnt, has since submitted his letter of resignation to Governor Emmanuel Udom.
