Ameobi considers Birmingham move

Ageless Super Eagles’ striker, Shola Ameobi, is close joining Championship side, Birmingham after about two decades at Newcastle United.

The veteran Toon striker’s 14-years at St James’ Park will come to an end this summer when his current contract expires.
Ameobi, 32, won’t be offered a new deal, and is set to try his luck in the Championship after snubbing a lucrative move to join Sven Goran Eriksson at ambitious Chinese Super League side, Guangzhou.
“When my time at Newcastle finally ends, it will be a sad moment because it’s something I’ve never taken for granted,” Ameobi said.
The Nigerian international is set to fall just short of 400 appearances for his adopted hometown club, which wh he made his debut for as a raw teenager back in 2000.
He will decide on his future after returning from the World Cup finals in Brazil, where he hopes to play a prominent role for the Super Eagles.
Birmingham boss and former Newcastle midfielder, Lee Clark, is keen to persuade his former teammate to join the Blues this summer.
Ameobi has made just 11 Toon starts this season, plus another nine from the bench, scoring once.
He hasn’t found the net in the Premier League for 14 months, and admitted: “After the summer, my future is unclear.
“When my time at Newcastle finally ends, it will be a sad moment because it’s something I’ve never taken for granted.”
