A group in the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, The Synergy Group, has accused the state government of attempting to divide organised labour so that it could have its ways in matters relating to the state easily.
The group, in a statement by Dotun Oyelade, said the government, headed by Senator Isiaka Ajimobi, who was elected on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, is not paying attention to the plight of workers but rather striving to divide them.
The group said it is regrettable and irresponsible of the administration to refuse to implement the agreement on payment of minimum wage in spite of the moratorium given by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The group said “Oyo State received its large chunk again from the Federation Account Allocation Committee of the N921 billion shared yet it has neither deemed it fit to deduct a fraction of this to offset the piling minimum wage bill nor addressed the biting priorities of our people.”
It said it “regretted that after eight months of indecision, Ajimobi has just decided to construct seven bridges to forestall imminent flood, even when the rainy season is all but here again.”
The statement accused government of lack of urgency in matters that concern the populace.
