Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the late former Deputy Governor of old Ondo Statet, Chief Akin Omoboriowo, and the late First Republic Health Minister and Administrator of the defunct Western Region, Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi, who both died in Lagos on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
The governor, in separate messages issued on Thursday in Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said he received the news of the death of the two elder statesmen with shock and disbelief.
Ajimobi, while acknowledging the immense contributions of the two eminent citizens to the emergence of modern Nigeria, said that they both put their God-given endowments at the disposal of their fatherland.
He particularly extolled the virtues of Omoboriowo, describing him as a principled politician, who would stop at nothing in the pursuit of his beliefs and convictions.
The governor also acknowledged the late politician’s principled stance on, and commitment to, the course of the Ekitis, his kinsmen, during his lifetime, saying that his demise was not only a loss to the people of Ekiti and the South West, but also to Nigeria in general.
Ajimobi also described Majekodunmi as a renowned medical doctor whose contributions to the field of Medicine for well over half a century of practice could not be quantified.
He also lauded the patriotic instinct of the late politician, saying that he defied all odds to accept his appointment as the Administrator of Western Region at a time when the region was enveloped with violence.
The governor noted that the Egba-born medical doctor, through his administrative acumen, brought the region back to the path of peace, a feat which, he said, was widely acknowledged till he breathed his last.
He said that their departure had robbed the country of their wealth of experience needed at this critical time to tackle the socio-economic and political challenges currently confronting the country.
Ajimobi, who said that both Omoboriowo and Majekodunmi would be sorely missed by Nigeria, however, urged their families, friends and associates to take solace in the fact that they both lived fulfilled lives and left their indelible footprints in the sands of time.
