A former Minister of Power and Steel, Dr. Olu Agunloye, has dumped the Action Congress of Nigeria for the Labour Party.
Agunloye made the move on Wednesday at the re-election declaration of the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, in Akure, the state capital.
The former minister had sought the ticket of the ACN for the governorship election, which holds on October 20, 2012 but was shut out of the race in a manner which most of the party’s aspirants have described as undemocratic.
Speaking at the occasion, Mimiko said: “I want to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his support for free and fair election.
“I have enjoyed the robust cooperation of our legislature and by this I will continue to work for you the people of Ondo State.
“Our desire at the end of the second term would be that we have been able to restore good governance in Ondo,”
Mimiko, who urged the people of the state to come out en masse to vote for the Labour Party, said that his desire is to continue with the rapid transformation of the state, which he started during his first term.
Present at the occasion were the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Abdulwaheed Omar; the President of the Trade Union Congress, Peter Esele; a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae; and leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Chief Frederick Faseun.
