The much talked about strike by the University of Ibadan chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has been put on hold.
The decision to suspend the strike, scheduled to begin on Monday, was reached following a meeting between the union and the Federal Government.
The Eagle Online gathered that the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, held an interactive session with the executives of the Joint Action Committee.
The outcome of the meeting, held on April 19, according to Wale Akinremi, the Chairman of UI SSANU, was positive, which informed the suspension of the strike.
SSANU, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and the National Association of Academic Technologies are members of JAC.
The unions have deliberated on going on strike on several occasions this year over the failure of the Federal Government to implement agreements it reached with the unions in 2009.
However, each time the unions planned to embark on the strike, the Federal Government intervenes with promises, urging the unions to rescind the decision.
Students at the University of Ibadan were looking forward to the strike.
They expressed disappointment when the strike was called off.
