The African Media Initiative on Tuesday announced the postponement of the 7th African Media Leaders Forum due to the Ebola virus disease epidemic in West African countries.
Report says the forum was scheduled for November 12 to 14 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The AMI said in the statement: “As part of precautionary measures to prevent the entry of the Ebola virus into South Africa, the Department of Health issued a travel advisory for travellers.
“Especially those coming from affected countries.”
The AMI, however, advised that the event would take place in November 2015 in South Africa.
“The current travel advisory, and the bleak outlook provided by international medical agencies, including Medécins Sans Frontières and the World Health Organisation, has forced this postponement,” it explained.
According to the Event Director, Maimouna Jallow, AMLF is a pan African event with approximately half of its delegates coming from West Africa.
Jallow said: “The AMLF is about networking, discussing ideas and finding new and joint solutions to problems that plague the African media sector.
“We cannot take the risk of half of our core constituents being left out of the conversation.”
The AMI re-emphasized its solidarity with those affected by the Ebola epidemic, saying it will continue to use its extensive media networks to support governments and people to fight this crisis.
