ACN is anti-Igbo – Ajumbe

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Peoples Alliance, formerly known as the Peoples Progressive Alliance, Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe, on Monday the deportation of 70 Nigerians of South East extraction from Lagos State to Onitsha in Anambra State by the Lagos State Government based on the directive of Governor Babatunde Fashola.
Ajumbe said Fashola’s party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, was also not Igbo friendly.
Ajumbe stated that the actions taken by the Lagos State Government are unequivocally unlawful and crude, noting that the Nigerian constitution explicitly allows for the freedom of movement in any part of the country.
He said: “The actions executed by the Lagos State Government are proof of the prolonged injustice and marginalization faced by Igbos living in Lagos State and serves only to threaten the relative peace existing amongst the multi ethnic tribes of the nation.
“After all, the population of the Igbo people in Lagos nears seven million and over 47 per cent of registered voters are members of the Igbo community.
“We have a storied history of contributing immensely to the economic development and social fabric of Lagos State.
“ACN once notably ran to us to seek our support during the election campaign of 2011 and now it seems they have gotten what they wanted, and the time for gratitude is apparently over.
“Frankly, we don’t deserve this insult.”
Ajumbe decried the anti-masses policies of the ACN-led government, concluding that the Lagos State administration is spending hand-over-fist the money of the taxpayers on political persecution and ultimately the wetting of flowers when Lagos citizens and residents are thirsty.
He added: “These citizens are not going to go softly in to the night.
“In the interest of political maturity and adherence to constitutionally-decreed rule of law, I appeal to the international community, all and sundry to investigate this injustice and join and support the newly repositioned APPA ahead of the forthcoming 2015 general elections and curb this clear and present imbalance.”
