The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Aminu Salihu-Mikailu, said on Friday that the state government had released N62 million for the upgrade of facilities in the institution.
Salihu-Mikailu stated when the House Committee on Education, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, paid him a visit.
He said upgrade in the facilities was preparatory to an accreditation visit to the university by the National Universities Commission.
He said that the release of the fund by the state government was to ensure that the institution scaled through the accreditation exercise.
He said: “I want to thank the State House of Assembly Committee on Education for ensuring that the standard of education is improved upon not only in this institution but in schools across the state.
“The state government has released N62 million for the accreditation of various courses in the institution.
“It is only when courses are accredited that students, parents and others stakeholders will have confidence in an institution.
“It is part of the state government’s commitment to improve on the standard of education in the state.”
Salihu-Mikailu said the management of the university would ensure that all unaccredited courses would receive accreditation from the NUC.
Earlier, Hon. Raphael Dogara-Sa’aka, the chairman of the committee, said the visit was aimed at assessing the level of implementation of the 2013 budget by the university.
Dogara-Sa’aka said the committee was also interested in the problems facing the institution and how its leadership intended to address them.
“This visit is not to witch hunt anybody but to assess the level of 2013 budget implementation by this university, its achievements and challenges,” Dogara-Sa’aka said.
