Accreditation of voters commenced in Ekiti State as early as 8am.
Electoral staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission had arrived some polling booths by 7.25am with election materials.
While large crowd of voters were noticed at some polling booths, at some the people were scanty.
Our correspondent also observed that there are more security men at the polling booths compared to the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections when some booths were without security men.
The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, said it was too early to conclude that there was apathy to the exercise since accreditation ends at 1.30pm.
Olusola commended security arrangement at the polling booths, adding: “I believe the security is up to the task.
“I don’t expect the Peoples Democratic Party losing the election.”
He boasted that PDP candidates will beat those of the All Progressives Congress in the election.
Similarly, the Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said he expected a very peaceful poll since “we were able to avoid bloodshed in the March 28 presidential election.
“What I have pleaded for is that we should see ourselves as brothers.
“So don’t do things that will cause serious damage to the polity.”
